Koru

Write, organize, and run AI agents in a private workspace that stores everything locally, syncs peer-to-peer, and works offline on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Koru is a local-first workspace for writing, organizing, and working with AI. Everything lives in a local database on your device. No account needed to get started, no cloud dependency by default, and it works fully offline.

The core idea is that your AI agents should work with your documents, not in a separate tab you copy-paste between. Koru lets you open agents like Claude, Codex, Grok, or GitHub Copilot as tabs inside the app, sitting beside the files they're working on. Agents connect to your workspace through a built-in local MCP server, so they can read and edit your documents directly.

Key capabilities:

  • Agent tabs, run any supported AI agent as a tab in the same window as your documents
  • Local MCP server, agents interact with your workspace through a standardized protocol without leaving your machine
  • Local voice input, speech recognition runs on-device, so your audio never reaches the cloud; works across other apps too, not just Koru
  • Peer-to-peer sync, devices sync directly with each other, end-to-end encrypted, without routing through Koru's servers
  • Profiles, separate work, personal, and other contexts into distinct profiles, each with its own independent workspaces
  • Koru Cloud (optional), adds an always-online copy for backup and sync across devices when peer-to-peer isn't enough

Tasks, lists and reminders are available in nightly builds, with calendar integration and agent orchestration on the roadmap. Notes can be imported from Evernote, Notion, OneNote, Google Docs and Markdown. The codebase is public on GitHub under the MPL-2.0 license.

For anyone who's uncomfortable with notes and documents living in a vendor's cloud, Koru makes local storage the default rather than an afterthought. The optional cloud layer adds convenience without making it mandatory.
