Mailflare gives individuals and teams a fully functional email inbox tied to their own domain, without running a traditional mail server. It deploys to Cloudflare Workers or a single Docker container, and everything, including messages, attachments, and configuration, stays inside infrastructure you control.

It's aimed at founders, small businesses, and developers who want professional custom-domain email but don't want to pay recurring fees to Zoho Mail or Google Workspace, and don't want to manage a full mail server stack either.

What it covers day-to-day:

  • Send and receive from your own domain with a full webmail interface, conversations, drafts, attachments, and signatures
  • Shared inboxes for addresses like hello@ or support@, with role-based access so the right people see the right mail
  • Multiple accounts so every team member gets their own secure login
  • Smart routing to store, forward, reject, or organize incoming mail automatically
  • Fast search across sender, recipient, subject, and message content
  • Spam filtering trained per mailbox, plus TOTP two-factor authentication
  • Scheduled backups with manual restore, plus import/export for portability
  • JMAP support so you can connect compatible desktop and mobile email apps
  • API and webhooks to hook mail delivery into external workflows

On Cloudflare, it uses Workers for compute, D1 for the mailbox database, R2 for attachment storage, and Email Routing for inbound delivery. DNS records including MX, SPF, and DKIM are handled automatically. The Docker path uses SQLite and local file storage with your own SMTP service.

The Community edition is free to self-host and includes the complete send/receive interface, spam filtering, 2FA, backups, and full source access. Paid tiers add custom branding and team administration, sold as one-time licenses rather than subscriptions. If you're comparing self-hosted options, tools like Twake Mail or UnInbox cover similar ground with different architecture tradeoffs.
