SquirrelDisk

SquirrelDisk maps your entire disk as a live, interactive chart so you can see exactly what's eating your storage and act on it without guesswork. It's a cross-platform alternative to tools like DaisyDisk on macOS or TreeSize on Windows, and it runs on all three major operating systems from a single lightweight app.

The chart builds in real time as the scan runs. Every folder becomes a slice of a sunburst, sized by how much space it actually occupies. Click a slice to zoom in, hover to see what's inside, click the center to go back up. If you prefer boxes over rings, a treemap view is available and works identically. Tiny files get grouped so the chart stays readable rather than turning into noise.

Cleanup is the real differentiator. You drag slices or list rows into a collector at the bottom, then choose what happens:

• Move to Trash for anything you might want back
• Delete permanently to free space immediately
• Secure erase overwrites each file three times (DoD 5220.22-M) before removal
• Back up, then delete sends files to an external drive or cloud storage first

Safety is built in. System folders, your home directory, and whole drives are protected by default. App and settings folders require an extra confirmation before anything gets collected.

The app is written in Rust, weighs around 8 MB, and has no embedded browser or runtime. It starts instantly and stays light even while scanning millions of files. Unlike CCleaner or CleanMyMac, it doesn't require an account, sends no file names or paths anywhere, and picks its sponsor banner locally with no tracking involved.

Beyond local drives, it can scan any machine over SSH, and connects to S3, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, FTP, and other cloud storage through rclone. The app installs rclone for you and lets you add accounts directly inside the interface.

Cloud-synced files that exist only remotely count as zero bytes, and hard-linked folders are counted once, so the numbers reflect actual disk usage rather than inflated totals you'd see in a basic file browser.

Available in 25 languages, with seven color themes and optional sound effects. The chart updates automatically when you delete something outside the app in Finder, Explorer, or your file manager.
