Most database clients are desktop apps. You install them on your laptop, dig an SSH tunnel, expose a port, and hope your credentials survive a machine swap. LibreDB Studio takes the opposite approach: it's a container you deploy inside the same network as your database, then open in any browser.

That architectural choice matters more than it sounds. When your PostgreSQL or MongoDB lives in Kubernetes, a PaaS, or a customer's VPC, a desktop client can't reach it without punching holes in your network. A browser-based IDE deployed beside the data can, over plain HTTP, with nothing exposed to the outside.

19 engines, one interface. The same tree, editor, and results grid cover relational, document, key-value, analytical, search, and streaming stores:

  • Relational: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, SQLite, libSQL
  • Analytics: DuckDB, ClickHouse, Apache Druid, Trino
  • Document: MongoDB, Couchbase
  • Key-value / wide-column: Redis, LibreDB, Cassandra
  • Search: Elasticsearch, OpenSearch
  • Time-series / streaming: Prometheus, Apache Kafka

Each engine's real limits are declared rather than hidden. If a feature can't work on a given engine, the control disappears with an explanation instead of failing silently.

What ships in the IDE:

  • Schema-aware SQL editor built on Monaco, with table and column completion, formatting, and snippets
  • Visual EXPLAIN for PostgreSQL, MySQL, DuckDB, ClickHouse, Trino, and others
  • ER diagrams discovered from foreign keys, exportable as SVG or PNG
  • Live health dashboard reading sessions, slow queries, cache hit ratios, and storage from each engine's own reporting interface
  • AI assistant that can explain or draft queries using Gemini, OpenAI, Ollama, or any compatible endpoint; generated SQL is yours to review before it runs
  • Database agent that accepts a plain-language objective, runs read-only budgeted SQL, and produces a report citing every result
  • Mobile-optimized views for on-call use from a phone

SSO via OIDC, role-based access control, and a full query audit trail ship in the MIT build, not behind an enterprise tier. The same goes for ER diagram generation, the AI assistant, and MongoDB and Redis support, which competing community editions often omit or gate. Unlike tools such as Beekeeper Studio or DataGrip, there's no paid upgrade path that unlocks additional capabilities.

Deployment options include Docker, Helm (with a certified Rancher Partner Charts listing), npm for embedding inside your own product, and one-click templates on Railway, DigitalOcean, and several other platforms. Every published artifact carries a build provenance attestation.
