ERP5 is an open source ERP aimed at organizations that run business-critical operations at scale. Banks, governments and large corporations use it to manage their processes in one system.

Its central idea is the Unified Business Model. Instead of building separate data structures for each business function, ERP5 describes them through a single shared model. That cuts down configuration work and makes it easier to adapt the system as needs change.

What stands out:

  • Scalability: built for demanding, mission-critical workloads rather than small-office use.
  • Flexibility: one model covers many business domains, so customization stays manageable.
  • AI agent access: an MCP server with a HATEOAS toolset lets AI agents work with ERP5, including creating purchase orders.
  • Workflow modeling: shared patterns for things like careers and assignments apply across the system.
  • Real deployments: implementations such as TioLive at Bet'Eire Flow show it in production use.

ERP5 is developed by the Nexedi group, which also publishes other free software. The project also takes part in research work, including WINDELIN, a Eureka-funded project using machine learning for predictive maintenance in wind turbines.

It suits IT teams and integrators who need a heavyweight system and are willing to invest in a model-driven approach. If you're comparing options, ERPNext and Odoo are other choices in the ERP systems category. ERP5 targets bigger, more complex setups.
