Self-hostable digital asset management platform with Elasticsearch-powered search, AI-assisted indexing, granular permissions, and API-first architecture for teams of any size.

Phrasea is a digital asset management platform built for organizations that need serious control over their media libraries. It's designed for communication teams, marketing departments, and creative studios that manage large volumes of images, videos, documents, and other digital files across multiple users and workflows.

At its core, Phrasea is built around a powerful search engine backed by Elasticsearch. You can find any asset in seconds using autocomplete, faceted filters, and full-text metadata search across multiple languages. Assets are organized hierarchically, versioned, and available through fine-grained access controls that let you define exactly who can see, download, or share what, down to individual users, groups, and collections.

Key capabilities include:

AI-assisted indexing: Automatic text detection and keyword suggestions reduce manual tagging work significantly.
Workflow engine: Built-in tools to automate asset production and route files through approval or processing steps.
Renditions and versioning: Generate and store multiple versions of an asset without losing the original.
SSO and MFA: Enterprise-grade authentication out of the box.
API-first architecture: Every function is accessible via API, with native connectors to PIM systems and other business tools.
Deployment flexibility: Available as SaaS, on-premise, or hybrid, with Docker and Kubernetes support for scalable infrastructure.

For business DAM use cases, Phrasea connects with PIM platforms to keep product image databases consistent and regulation-compliant. Creative teams get workflow automation and collaboration tools. IT departments get CDN support, scalability, and full data ownership since the source code is open and self-hostable.

Compared to proprietary platforms like Acquia DAM, Phrasea gives you complete infrastructure independence. Nothing is locked behind a vendor. The platform has been developed over 30 years of client project experience, which shows in the depth of its permissions model and its multilingual indexing support.
